Thinking about selling your pre-owned boat in Stockton? The process can be smooth, fast, and profitable if you’re well-prepared. At Delta Marine Sales, we specialize in helping boat owners maximize their sale value with expert guidance and a hassle-free brokerage service. Whether you’re selling to upgrade or moving on from boat ownership, here’s everything you need to know to sell your boat quickly and efficiently.
Step 1: Preparing Your Boat for Sale
A well-presented boat sells faster and at a higher price. Buyers want a boat that looks and feels ready for the water. Follow these key preparation steps:
✅ Remove all personal items – Anything not included in the sale should be taken off the boat.
✅ Thoroughly clean all surfaces – This includes carpets, upholstery, glass, canvas, compartments, and storage spaces.
✅ Deodorize and pump out the boat – A fresh-smelling boat makes a great first impression.
✅ Fix any broken or faulty items – Repairs on small issues can make a big difference in buyer perception.
🔹 Need help with cleaning and detailing? We offer a detailing service to get your boat in “showroom condition” for just $10 per foot for basic exterior and interior cleaning. Additional services like cut, buff, polish, and wax are available for an extra charge.
🚛 Boat transportation to our dealership (for boats on trailers) is available on a case-by-case basis. Contact us for a quote.

Step 2: Organizing Your Boat’s Paperwork
To ensure a smooth transaction, all documentation must be in good standing before listing your boat. Here’s what you’ll need:
📌 Driver’s License (Copy)
📌 Boat Title (if there’s no lien)
📌 Trailer Title (if applicable)
📌 Current Registration for both boat & trailer
📌 Lien Holder & Payoff Info (if applicable)
📌 USCG Documentation (if applicable)
📌 Certificate of Insurance with “Delta Marine Sales, Inc.” listed as additional insured
Once your documents are in order, we’ll generate the following:
📑 Listing Agreement – Includes listing duration, asking price, and commission.
📑 Commission Details – Our brokerage fee is 10% of the selling price (or a flat $5,000 for boats under $50,000).
Step 3: Storage Options for Your Boat During the Sale
To maximize exposure and buyer interest, your boat will be displayed at our showroom or marina:
💰 Storage Fees (Charged Monthly):
🚤 $325/month – Boats up to 25’ (including trailer tongue)
🚤 $400/month – Boats 26’-30’
🚤 $475/month – Boats 31’-35’
🚤 $550/month – Boats 36’-40’
🚤 $625/month – Boats 41’-45’ ($14/ft for boats over 45’)
🛠️ Boats on Stands: Additional $500 one-time fee for setup in and out of the showroom.
🔹 All storage fees are auto-charged monthly (no proration).
Step 4: Buyer Negotiations & Sea Trial
Once your boat is listed, we present all offers for your review. If a buyer is interested:
⛵ Sea Trial Process:
✔️ Only happens after a Purchase Agreement is signed and a 10% buyer deposit is secured.
✔️ Your agent can facilitate, or we can connect you with a USCG-licensed Captain (Hold Harmless Agreement required).
✔️ Additional fees may apply for fuel, launch, captain, and cleaning.
Step 5: Closing the Deal & Getting Paid
